About

Dan HornerHi, my name is Dan Horner.

Whether you’re just starting out or if you’ve been memorizing Bible verses for years, this is the place where you can come and partner with others on the journey.

Why this podcast?

Honestly, I want to know what the Bible says and where it says it.  There are a couple of reasons for this:

  • It’s a whole lot easier to do what Jesus said when I know what Jesus said
  • I need strength in tough times
  • I’d like to share with others at their interest level

How will this work?

I’m a simple guy and I’ve noticed that I learn by listening.  I need to “hear” items I’m trying to memorize.

I set up a small podcast studio in my basement and once a week I’ll record a set of verses I want to memorize.

The recording will be me actually working to memorize the verse.  No edits.  So if I struggle or take a little longer than planned – you are going to hear it.  (Hopefully you will find this encouraging.)

My idea is that as I memorize the verse, I’ll have as a goal to get it into my  “short term” memory during the recording session.  Then I’ll take the recording and as I drive I’ll listen to myself and “sing along” so to speak.  This is how I believe I can move these scriptures into my “long term” memory.

I know – weird – but I think it really will work and you are free to join me.

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

“Oh, how I love your instructions!
I think about them all day long.

Your commands make me wiser than my enemies,
for they are my constant guide.

Yes, I have more insight than my teachers,
for I am always thinking of your laws.”

Psalms 119:97-99

A little bit about me.

I’m 48 years old and originally from California.  Currently I work for UPS in Lenexa, Kansas.  I basically have a supporting role in UPS Sales and therefor drive a lot – hence this idea.

I’m really not interested in tying to win a memorization contest or perform.  I don’t want to push this to an extreme by memorizing a whole book or the whole New Testament, etc.  All that would accomplish is feeding my ego.  (And I really don’t think it would help you.)  I kind of feel like we’re in this together.

So let’s keep this real.  Let’s keep this simple.  How about we work together to stay focused on memorizing one complete thought from the Bible every week?  (This could be 1 – 3 verses.)

In just a year – wow!!!

Thanks again and be sure to drop me a line a Dan@MemorizeTheBibleWithMe.com to let me know how the podcast is working for you.

See you next week….

Dan

Raul,

Thanks for the encouragement! If all goes well I hope to assemble a collection of 100 verses and then place them into topical groups. This way anyone can come to the site, find the verses in the topic they want and then commit them to memory.

Dear Brother Dan,

I am very much impressed about your heart to memorize the Word of God. By the grace of God, my dad Pastor Gali has memorized 5,000 Scriptures from the Holy Bible and I have memorized 1,000 Scriptures. We encourage people to memorize the Word of God.

I hope one day we can meet. We welcome you to India to ministry along side with us.

Look forward to hear from you.

David,

It is awesome to hear from you. The world indeed is becoming a smaller place. It’s a pleasure to join you in encouraging others to memorize the Word of God. I certainly don’t have 1,000 verses memorized, in fact I find that I have to re-learn several of the verses I’ve already posted to the web site.

But I do know this, each time I review and re-learn a verse it becomes more embedded in my mind and God uses it to remind me of what I need to remember at critical points in my life.

Take care and keep encouraging others to spend time memorizing Bible Verses.

Dan
