MemorizeTheBibleWithMe.comYou need to Read Psalm 37.

That’s what my wife, Debbie, wrote on the back of a card she bought for me last week.  She knew I needed encouragement.

I must have read the 40 verses in that Psalm 4 or 5 different times.  Debbie knows me too well, and when she feels the Lord has given her something to share with me, I’ve learned to listen.

Are you a worrier?  I am.

Now to be fair, I’m a planner too.  It’s what I’m very good at.  But the dark side of being a planner is that I can get far too concerned with what can go wrong and it starts to eat me up inside.  I don’t like being unable to control a situation and life just can’t always be “controlled.”

To make matters worse, when I worry, I know it directly contradicts something God has asked all of us to do – trust Him.

Be Still and Wait

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret – it leads only to evil.

For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

Psalm 37:7-9

Do Not Fret.  Do Not Fret

Did you catch the repetition?  That’s not an accident.  Fretting or “worrying” is in stark contrast to being “still” and waiting for God to act.

Fretting is you and I planning our actions.  I need to rest and understand that God, in his time, will act.

Don’t miss this next part

So how do we stop worrying?

  • Be more committed?
  • Be mentally tough?
  • Hold myself accountable and make sure I never worry again?

Not really.

This kind of patience only comes as the direct result of the Holy Spirit’s help in our lives.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Against such things there is no law.”

Galations 5:22-23 (emphasis added)

Let Him do the work, Patience and Peace will come.

Thanks again for joining me this week.  I hope you’re finding this helpful.  If you know of other people who learn by hearing, be sure to let them know about this podcast.  I know this is really making a difference in my life.  I hope it is in yours too.
